Post Script

In my previous post I made it sound like vinyl upholstery is a good thing. I'd like to make it clear that this does not reflect the views of anybody at Garbage Van.

Just say no to cheap vinyl upholstery.

Love,
The Jar

Garbage Chairs

All rise.

Ok, you can be seated.

Here is the first (at last) true Garbage Van post! This is a chair we picked up over a year ago from the dumpster by our building. It may be difficult to tell from the lackluster photograph, but the upholstery is actually vinyl. I decided to post this first because it is actually something we no longer have.

We had it as the only non-bed place to sit in our bedroom for many months, and eventually realized that we only used it as a temporary holder for dirty-ish clothes that weren't ready for the dirty-laundry basket. (Do other people do this?)

So after many months of taking care of this old friend we returned him (her?) to where we found her(him?). The Garbage-fairies took him to his next home within a few hours.

As far as I can recall, this is currently the only item that we have relinquished.

With love,
the Jar

The Give-Away Shelf

As some of you may be aware, it has become tradition in Building 1 to leave behind the possessions you no longer want on the shelf in common room downstairs. This shelf has often brought great joy (as it did the time I found a copy of The Kite Runner, a book I've been meaning to read).

When the Jar and I left the apartment today and investigated the shelf of joy, we were left with utter confusion. Someone had left their chocolate thong behind (the motto on the box was "I have a heart on for you"). Even more bizarre, somebody took it! Now, this bring a whole host of questions to mind: Who has a chocolate thong? Who gets rid of a chocolate thong? And who takes a used edible thong from a shelf in a graduate housing building? are among the questions.

I'll leave you to grapple with that thought. Next post will contain pictures of the wonderfully used furniture the Jar and I have been collecting!
